Web accessibility audit for WCAG and the European Accessibility Act

Grapefruit's web accessibility audit checks your website or app against WCAG 2.2 AA and the European Accessibility Act, which has applied since June 2025 to services such as banking, e-commerce and telecom. We combine automated scans, manual expert testing and assistive technology checks, then deliver prioritised fixes, design system guidance and an accessibility statement draft.

AI in this service

How AI changes accessibility audit at Grapefruit

AI speeds up the repetitive part of accessibility work, such as drafting alternative text, spotting unclear link labels and grouping similar issues across hundreds of pages, while specialists do the manual testing that tools cannot. We do not recommend AI accessibility overlays: they do not make a site conformant and can make assistive technology harder to use.

Related work from our UX/UI Design practice

The migration of the website was both a challenging and complex project and the support provided by the Grapefruit team was very good, and they were hands-on through the entire technical process. Also, the fact that there was an Agile project management approach in place from start to the end, made the entire way of working efficient and clear from one iteration to the other and I really appreciated the collaboration with them.

Accessibility Audit: frequently asked questions

Cannot find your question? Ask a senior specialist directly.

Does the European Accessibility Act apply to us?

It applies to many consumer-facing products and services placed on the EU market, including banking services, e-commerce, telecom services, e-books and transport ticketing, with obligations applying since 28 June 2025. Micro-enterprises providing services are exempt. Your legal team should confirm applicability; we assess the technical conformance.

Which standard do you audit against?

WCAG 2.2 at level AA, which covers and extends the requirements of EN 301 549, the European standard referenced for the European Accessibility Act. We report which criteria pass or fail and what that means for your conformance statement.

Are automated accessibility checkers enough?

No. Automated tools catch only part of WCAG issues, mostly technical ones such as missing labels or contrast. Keyboard traps, confusing focus order, meaningless alternative text and screen reader experience need manual testing by specialists.

How long does an accessibility audit take?

Typically 2 to 4 weeks, depending on the number of platforms, templates and journeys in scope. Retesting after fixes is shorter because it focuses on the issues found.

Can you fix the issues as well?

Yes. Our designers and front-end engineers can remediate issues in your code and design system, or support your team and other vendors with specific fixes and retesting. Fixing at component level prevents the same problems from returning in new pages.
